ASLC Devotions - Tuesday

Romans 9:14-15 What then are we to say? Is there injustice on God’s part? By no means! For he says to Moses,
‘I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.’

One of the great questions for people of faith is about who will be saved. Paul wrote that faith is what's necessary, faith in Christ - not any particular works. One element of the question that troubles lots of people (including yours truly) is about faithful and godly people who profess faith in other religious systems. Gandhi, the Dalai Lama, people like that. What happens to them. How are they viewed by God?

The verse above reminds me that, while those questions may be interesting and may occupy my mind and provide fodder for theological conversation... there's no way to come up with an answer. And it's really not my business. God will have mercy on whom God will have mercy. And I should probably worry more about myself and my faith than that of Gandhi. There's more I can do about that.

In Christ,
Pastor Seth
