ASLC Devotions - Friday

Acts 18:26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue; but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained the Way of God to him more accurately.

The "he" referenced above is a man named Apollos - you may not have heard of him. He's not a major figure in the New Testament. But he had learned something about Jesus and was obviously a powerful speaker because he took what he knew and preached the gospel that Jesus is the promised Messiah and belief leads to eternal life. But he didn't have it all quite right. So Priscilla and Aquila corrected him - they had been friends of Paul and knew the full message Paul had been given by God.

So there are two lessons for us here, I think: First, a message of life can come from just about anywhere. It doesn't have to always be from Paul. It might be from a movie you're watching, or the smile of a neighbor. Second, we all should be open to being corrected and learning more. Apollos was not offended the Priscilla and Aquila wanted to expand his knowledge. He took what they had to teach and integrated it into his own life. That's humility and power. And from it, God can do great things.

In Christ,
Pastor Seth
