| 2 Corinthians 10:17 'Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.' Boasting is what our world is built on. Job interviews, promotion, auditions, tryouts. All these things are essentially about boasting - telling how wonderful you are and what you can do. There's a place for that - according to the rules of our society and the way we've designed the world to work.
But there's another path. There is another way to be. Paul tells us that if we absolutely have to boast, we should boast in the Lord. So when someone says "You've done such a great job" - think about responding with "With God's help." It's not false modesty trying to get more praise. It's recognizing reality. Pro tip: you probably won't get a job or promotion this way. But... it's real.
