ASLC Devotions - Thursday

1 Corinthians 4:8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! Quite apart from us you have become kings! Indeed, I wish that you had become kings, so that we might be kings with you!

Clearly hard times are a reality. Some of us at times go hungry, struggle to stay in our homes, get collection notices in the mail. Hard times are a reality, and no amount of positive thinking or looking at it from another perspective makes those collection notices go away.

On the other hand, I often wonder whether for many of us, perspective really does matter more than we give it credit!. I wonder whether we feel poor and we are hopeless sometimes precisely because we feel poor and we are hopeless. Sometimes it is clear that our attitude affects the reality of our lives. I think that's what Paul was getting at when he wrote to the Corinthians that "already you have all you want... you've become rich... you've become kings." Sometimes the day and the problem would look a whole lot better if we just remembered that in our baptism, God made us kings and queens in his kingdom. God has given us all we need. God has made us rich.

In Christ,
Pastor Seth
